March 17, 2026

We are pleased to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students at the DAIDA Global Urban Thesis Award 2025.

Out of 9 international graduates, two IUSD graduates were awarded for their work on the topic of "Public Infrastructure and Public Spaces":

  • Umar Naeem – Special Award

Thesis: Beyond Green and Grey: Exploring the Socio-Environmental Dimensions of Urban Nature Transformations in Lahore (Pakistan)

Umar analyzes the social and ecological aspects of urban nature changes and thus contributes to inclusive planning.

  • Abiral Bhuju – 2nd place

Thesis: Community Perspectives on Windhoek's Ephemeral Rivers: Engaging in Local Knowledge for Sustainable Urban Design (Namibia)

Abiral explores how local knowledge supports sustainable urban design in Windhoek.

The DAIDA Award annually honors master's theses that improve living conditions in fast-growing cities in the Global South. We are proud of our students’ work, which combine research, sustainability and social justice.
