Congratulations! Our IUSD graduate, Ahmed Badreldin, has been awarded the 1st Prize in the DAIDA Foundation Global Urban Thesis Award, organized by My Liveable City magazine.
His thesis, "Assessing Water-Sensitive Urban Design Approaches in Historic Sites: The Case Study of al-Khalifa, Historic Cairo," conducted with joint supervision of ILPÖ and Ain Shams University Cairo, was selected among 40 submissions from 22 institutes across 11 countries under the theme "Urbanisation & Nature: Addressing the Contradiction."
In addition to this recognition, Ahmed was also awarded the Follow-Up Project Prize, which will provide him with the opportunity to implement his innovative research in Cairo, Egypt, translating academic work into real-world impact.
The DAIDA Foundation Global Urban Thesis Award is an international competition that acknowledges and supports Master’s graduates in Architecture and Urbanism whose research contributes to improving urban infrastructure and living conditions for vulnerable communities in rapidly growing cities of the Global South.
This recent achievement adds to the IUSD master program’s track record of success in this competition. In 2022, Diana Barrera Salazar won the 3rd prize under the theme of Climate Change, while in 2020, Maria Valverde won the 1st prize under the theme of Water and Development.
