Summary
In an increasingly urbanized world, biodiversity in cities is the most important contact many people have with nature. However, with the expansion and densification of cities, urban green spaces and blue structures, and their biodiversity are under pressure, leading to a decline in the quality of life in cities. This review discusses the potential of biodiversity in cities and the many challenges that biodiversity is facing there. The review also identifies opportunities and approaches how to develop sustainable, biodiverse cities for people and nature.
