TOPIC

Students work individually and in small groups to test different urban research methods and conceptual tools as part of an Integrated Research and Design Project 1 (IRD). The seminar is conceptually linked to the seminar Methods and Tools (M&T) that offers an overview to theories, methods and tools in research and design practices. The knowledge of analysis and participation tools that was acquired in Methods and Tools (M&T) core module will be used to prepare strategic development concepts in a specific site in Stuttgart during Integrated Research and Design Project 1 (IRD) core module. Students will also develop an experiment to try out and test their proposed design strategy on real site.

The „Integrated Research and Design Module“ aims at expanding students’ understanding of the roles and responsibilities of professionals involved in the process of shaping our cities, buildings and urban environment. It links research and design skills such as ecological knowledge, sustainable technologies, and collaborative forms of project development and organization. Students will creatively and strategically assemble new alliances and relationships among various stakeholders.
